BISHOP, EPARCHY OF PALAI & PATRON OF THE INSTITUTE

Mar Joseph Kallarangatt is the Bishop of Palai and Patron of the College. He had his higher studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome and took doctorate in Theology. He was the Professor of Theology at Paurastya Vidyapeetham, Kottayam and in 2001 he was appointed as the President of Paurastya Vidyapeetham and continued in the office till he was appointed as the Bishop of Palai in 2004.

Rev. Dr. Joseph Thadathil, Protosyncellus of the Eparchy of Palai and Syncellus for Parishes, Priests & Public Relations, oversees Priests’ Homes and Religious Congregations (CMC, DST, FCC, SABS, SH, SMC). He is the Chairman of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering & Technology, Palai, and St. Joseph’s Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Palai, and Manager of St. Thomas College, Alphonsa College, and St. Thomas College of Teacher Education, Palai. He leads Internet Evangelization, EWS Pala, the Safe Environment Committee, and oversees St. Alphonsa Shrine & Pilgrim Centre, Bharananganam. As President of the Family Aid Fund Pala and A.D.C.P., he is also involved in Pala Caritas, Pravasi Apostolate, and Pala Jagratha Samithy.

Rev. Dr. Joseph Maleparambil

Rev Dr. Maleparampil Joseph, Syncellus (Vicar General) of the Eparchy of Palai, oversees religious, educational, and missionary initiatives. He administers Aided and Unaided Schools and Colleges, supports the Sabarmathi, Adilabad, and Thuckalay missions, and leads pastoral and cultural projects, including the Christian Cultural Centre and Golden Jubilee Cultural Museum. He guides Religious Congregations (CMC, DST, SABS, SH, SMC), Religious Houses of Men, Ongoing Formation of Priests, and Seminarians. He also manages infrastructure projects like the New Pastoral Center, Sea View, and Greenvalley Estates. As Coordinator of the Palai Home Project and supporter of Deepika Friends Club (DFC), he remains committed to social welfare, education, and clergy formation in the Eparchy of Palai.

Fr. VETHANATH SEBASTIAN STD

Fr. Vethanath Sebastian, STD, Syncellus (Vicar General) of the Eparchy of Palai, oversees counseling, evangelization, and social initiatives. He leads the Santhwana Institute of Counselling and Guidance, Mount Nebo Eparchial Retreat Centre, and Bible Conventions in Pala while supporting priestly formation and seminarians on regency. As Chairman of Karshaka Bank and Manager of the Civil Service Institute and Lumen Study Centre, he plays a key role in financial and academic development. His leadership extends to AKCC, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Secular Franciscan Order, Farmer’s Movement, Madhya Virudha Samathi, and religious congregations (FCC & SMS Schools). He also oversees the Dharma Deepam Industrial Estate, Prayer Houses, St. Thomas Press, Deepanalam Society, and Shalom Pastoral Centre, ensuring holistic community development through education, social service, and pastoral care.

Rev Fr. Joseph Kaniyodickal

Fr. Kaniyodickal Joseph DTh serves as the Syncellus (Vicar General) of the Eparchy of Palai, overseeing key healthcare and rehabilitation institutions. He plays a vital role in the administration of Mar Sleeva College of Nursing (MSCON), Cherpunkal, and Holy Ghost Hospital School of Nursing, Muttuchira, ensuring excellence in medical education and training. As the Managing Director of Mar Sleeva Medicity, Palai, Cherpunkal, he leads healthcare initiatives while also supporting Fathima Mission Hospital, Kozhuvanal, and Holy Ghost Mission (HGM) Hospital, Muttuchira. His commitment to social welfare extends to addiction recovery through ADARRT (Alcohol and Drug Addicts Research, Rehabilitation, and Treatment Centre), Palai. Through his leadership in healthcare, education, and rehabilitation, Fr. Kaniyodickal Joseph remains dedicated to community service and pastoral care

Rev. Prof. Dr. James John Mangalath,

ADMINISTRATOR OF THE INSTITUTE

 

Prof. Dr. James John Mangalathu is a Catholic Priest of the Diocese of Palai and the Director of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology, Palai. He holds a Master’s in History from M S University of Baroda and a PhD in Indo-Portuguese History from Pondicherry Central University, with research stints in France and Portugal. An accomplished historian, he has worked in major archives across Europe, published over 20 research articles, and authored The Portuguese and the Socio-Cultural Changes in Kerala: 1498-1663 (Routledge, London). He is fluent in multiple languages and has visited several countries for academic pursuits. With 22+ years at St. Thomas College, Palai, he served as Professor, HoD, and Principal (2018-2024). He has held leadership roles in the Xavier Board of Higher Education, Kerala Principals’ Council, and the Association of Catholic Historians of India, where he is currently Joint Secretary, along with the Private College Management Association.

Rev Fr. Joseph Vattappillil

Rev Fr. Joseph Vattappillil is currently the vice chancellor Eparchy of Palai. He is the priest in charge of internet evangelization web services of the Eparchy of palai. He is also the Director of St. Joseph’s Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology , Palai from the year 2022 and warden of St. Alphonsa Hostel (SJCET) , Choondacherry. He has done specialisation in moral theology in 2009 from Collegio Maria Mater Ecclesiae, Roma, Italy. And have also done specialization in Canon Law from Dharmaram Vidhya Kshetram , Bengaluru.

Rev. Fr. Thomas Njavallil

He is the Lab Manager of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering & Technology, Palai and St. Joseph’s Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Palai. He is a B.Tech holder in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the Shipping Corporation of India. He was the former Manager of ITC Karoor.

Rev. Fr. Mattamundayil John, MSc (Counseling), serves as the Bursar of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering & Technology, Palai, and St. Joseph’s Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Palai. In this role, he oversees financial administration, ensuring the smooth functioning of institutional operations. Additionally, he serves as the Assistant Warden of St. Alphonsa Hostel (SJCET), Choondacherry, where he plays a key role in student welfare and hostel management. Through his financial stewardship and pastoral care, Fr. Mattamundayil John contributes to the growth and well-being of the academic community

Mr. Alex Thomas

Mr.Alex Thomas commenced his career as a planter after graduating from Kerala University. After setting up the plantation business in North Kerala in early 80s, he returned to Kottayam distributing building materials. Learning the ropes of the construction business well and sensing the opportunity ahead, Alex co-founded Neptune Readymix Concrete Private Limited, the first Readymix Concrete Company in Kerala, in 2003. An envious track record both in business growth and sustainable & robust business practices prompted a national player in the industry, RDC Concrete India Limited, to acquire Neptune in 2007. Though Alex exited the business through one of the early Private Equity transactions in Kerala, he continued as the CEO of Neptune in professional capacity. He quit as the CEO of Neptune in 2010, while continuing as an independent Director, for promoting Tierra Food India Pvt Ltd.

Mr. Varghese Johnson

Mr.Varghese Johnson is a graduate in Hotel Management securing First class with distinction from Mangalore University. He is a post graduate with Master’s degree in Tourism (MTM), Human Resource Management (MHRM), and Hotel Management (M.Sc. HM). He has over 12 years of teaching experience in colleges under Mangalore University and 6 years of teaching experience in St.Joseph’s Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Pala, Kerala. He is the author of four books on F&B Service and was the trainer for “Servietten Falten”, 145 different napkin folds made in 00.03:37.96 on 13th of June 2018 that entered Limca Book of Records. He is the club co-ordinator of Le Sommelier and Paryavarana.

Holding M.Sc, MBA, and BHM qualifications, she is dedicated to academic excellence and institutional development. She serves as the IQAC Coordinator, ensuring continuous quality enhancement in education. Additionally, she is an Executive Committee Member for Learning and Development in the Kerala Chapter of PHA (Professional Housekeepers Association) South Region, contributing to professional growth and skill development in the hospitality industry.
