About the Anti-Ragging Cell

St. Joseph’s Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (SJIHMCT), Palai, is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming academic environment for all students. In compliance with the regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, the institution has constituted an Anti-Ragging Cell.

The Anti-Ragging Cell functions with zero tolerance towards ragging in any form and ensures that students can pursue their education with dignity and confidence.

Objectives of the Anti-Ragging Cell

  • To prevent ragging in all its forms within the campus.
  • To create awareness among students about the consequences of ragging.
  • To encourage students to report incidents without fear.
  • To ensure prompt and effective action on reported cases.
  • To promote a culture of mutual respect and harmony.

What Constitutes Ragging

Ragging includes any act that causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm, embarrassment, humiliation, or harassment to a student. This may include verbal abuse, physical assault, bullying, intimidation, or any behavior that violates the dignity of an individual.

Preventive Measures

  • Awareness programmes for freshers and senior students.
  • Display of anti-ragging notices at prominent locations.
  • Regular monitoring of hostels and campus premises.
  • Interaction with students to identify and address concerns early.

Reporting Ragging Incidents

Students who experience or witness ragging are encouraged to report the matter immediately to the Anti-Ragging Cell or any faculty member. Confidentiality will be strictly maintained, and no student shall face retaliation for reporting incidents in good faith.

Ragging is a punishable offence. Students found guilty of ragging shall be liable for strict disciplinary action as per UGC regulations and institutional rules.
